We rescued Mara from Animal Friends of Turkey in 2020. She has been with us for 3.5 years and is the most contented little girl. She had been a street dog before AFOT stepped in to help her. She was dumped by her supposed owner several times and she trekked back every time with her puppies in tow. Over 5km. Such a loyal girl. We own a boxer boy Reggie, who is not good with entire male dogs. AFOT’s matching process is thorough, considerate, honest and ensures the best match possible. Mara and Reggie are the best of friends. They adore each other and are a match made in heaven. I honestly know the perfect match is because AFOT care so much about the dogs they rescue, the families who foster or adopt them and their devotion to successful and happy endings. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Xx

Wonderful charity. Run completely by volunteers and their expertise of home checking, matching, breed experience, dog temperament, rescue logistics, DEFR legislation all exemplary. Rehoming a dog from overseas is not a simple procedure. You need someone who knows it all - and cares deeply about what they do

I adopted my lovely dog through AFOT in 2020. It was an easy and enjoyable experience with this great charity. AFOT put everything into rescuing and caring for these poor abandoned and abused dogs, including necessary medical care, and giving them loving foster homes, where they are assessed before forever homes are found for them in the UK. I would recommend AFOT to anyone looking to adopt a dog from Turkey.

We adopted our dog from AFOT and from beginning until now the charity have been a total joy to deal with. The adoption process is meticulous and the community which is built after is second to none. They work tirelessly to ensure the dog comes first in any decision. I would recommend using AFOT to add the next addition to your family!

We highly recommend everyone we have dealt with at AFOT during the adoption of our girl Josie, especially Carol, Gail & Brenda for all their help and experience. Sadly we lost our 16year old Collie Winnie earlier this year but felt a few months later we would love another rescue to share our lives, l came across the AFOT site and saw Josie. Everything from our initial chat with Carol to Josie’s arrival was wonderfully organised & we were kept updated at every stage from Brenda in Turkey and throughout her journey to the UK. To anyone considering adopting from this charity please go ahead as we have nothing but praise and gratitude for all they do and a big WOOF from Josie 🐕‍

After being let down from a number of Uk rescue charities I googled rescue dogs North Yorkshire and AFOT popped up…. After a look round their site and a read of all the experiences others had, we scanned and read all the profiles of dogs. I cried many tears reading those stories. We welcomed Sammy in Dec 2022. His profile was so accurate and true I still people when we meet how AFOT is so amazing. Yes it seemed daunting adopting a dog you don’t know or never met. But from the first contact with Carol, Gail and Brenda in Turkey, we knew it was such a professional rescue. Yes it can not be easy transporting animals thousands of miles, with so much paperwork and the constant change of legislation. Sammy was delayed due to this, however the welfare of the dog is paramount, and we were kept informed every step of the way. The care of the animal does not stop at drop off and follow up phone calls and advise us always at hand. We are totally in love with Sammy and he with us. If we could have another we would in a heartbeat. Well done AFOT for saving these gorgeous animals.

At the end of January this year I lost my golden of 13 years. To say I was devastated was an understatement. As I did not want a puppy I started looking on rescue sites. I then came across AFOt. I spoke to Gail and Carol about my lifestyle and what kind of dog I was looking for. Carol sent a link for one dog Luna. She seemed perfect for me . When I read through the link I noticed she had a brother whom she had spent a lot of time with . Although I was only looking for one dog I kept going back to her brother as well . I spoke to Carol who said it would be great if I took the both dogs but was very clear to me that I would be taking on an very big task as they were a handful and that I should really be sure . For some reason I knew these two had to come to me . I went ahead with the adoption and the whole process was amazing and a credit to the afot workers. Gail and Carol were allways on hand incase of any questions and I was also giving solo and lunas foster dads number who would send me videos of them often and is also a credit to the afot team. Throughout the transport of my dogs I was updated regularly as Carol set up a WhatsApp group for the adopters to s follow there dogs journey . My life has changed 100% for the better due to my two beautiful babies from afot and I can’t thank this rescue sight enough. You are an amazing team and may you allways be there for other dogs in turkey. Again Thankyou from the bottom of my heart and if anyone out there is thinking of adopting then please please don’t hesitate to get a doggie from this rescue site 🙏💙 .

We have been following this charity for approx. 8 years now. The first time I was in Turkey I found an ill dog and the locals put me in touch with this wonderful charity and the dog was picked up very promptly, after that I became very interested in them as we visit Turkey frequently. I have also been lucky enough to spend a day in their own shelter helping out and I can vouch that the animals are very looked after and loved by a dedicated volunteer team. They feed, water and care for all the street animals in an area of Turkey, its quite remarkable. I now have 2 dogs from this charity, and I would recommend them to anyone. They have a very thorough adoption process and the animals always come first, they will not pass applications if they are not 100% satisfied that the animal will be in good hands or the expectations of the adopters are not clear. This is one of the reasons I support them. My second dog was the perfect match for the first one which the charity are particularly careful about, they want the very best for all their animals and everyone involved is 100% dedicated and committed. Keep up the good work everyone

An amazing rescue! I have a beautiful dog called Dixie and she has settled in so well! This rescue has been so supportive and tbh more than my Uk rescues. Please adopt a turkish dog, they are so special and loving. Support this rescue! Simply the best xxx
