I recently moved into an old property with exposed high timber beams. The RICS building survey had recommended getting a quote for woodworm treatment, which I hadn’t acted upon before purchase. However, having spotting a visible area of internal lintel where the wood had been eaten/ rotted away (not highlighted by the building surveyor), I did contact a couple of damp surveyors for advice/ quotes for surveys. One sucked through his teeth and, without viewing, said I’d have to sand blast the beams back to bare wood to treat or drill and inject woodworm treatment with no guarantee of success. Conversely, Tyrone has a very calming and reassuring manner! He was able to carry out an inspection within 48 hours. He was generous with his time on the day, listening to my concerns and explaining things in plain English. I received the report the following day. He confirmed there is no evidence of current woodworm infestation, the timbers are dry, and there is no need or benefit for precautionary (expensive, not to mention toxic) timber treatment. Hooray!! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his independent and impartial advice and services.
